Day 3
Sugar Cookies
On a December day in 1965 our son’s in home baby sitter had a wonderful surprise for us. That day while we were at work she had made sugar cookies. They were a perfect round shape, crispy, colorful and delicious. They were not cutouts, but dough rolled into small balls, flattened with a glass that had been dipped into either green, red or white crystal sugars. Below is the recipe for those awesome cookies!
1 cup sugar
1 cup margarine or butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
pinch of salt
Cream sugar and butter, add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Stir in the dry ingredients. Mix until well blended. Shape into one inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. (I use parchment paper) Flatten with a glass that has been dipped in crystal sugar. (For Christmas use red or green crystal sugars) Bake at 350 degrees 8-10 minutes or until very slightly browned around the edges. Enjoy!
