A message from Pastor Lynnae
Lent 2020 begins with Ash Wednesday on Feb. 26th. Our theme this year will be “Celtic Wisdom” and will take us into the aspects of the spirituality of the people of Ireland, Scotland and England. Celtic Christian Spirituality draws its inspiration from the early prayers and poetry of the Celtic world and from the lives of the Celtic saints. It is a tradition of story, art and wisdom that speaks to our Christian faith and to many concerns of our age.
LOVE OF THE NATURAL WORLD
Like many of the psalms, Celtic prayers and poetry express awe at God’s handiwork in creation. Celtic saints showed great respect to God’s creation, living simply and in harmony with nature.
HOSPITALITY
The Celtic Church believed in welcoming the stranger and encourages us to be open and accepting, without judgment of others.
MONASTIC INFLUENCES
Celtic Christian communities focused on prayer, learning and hospitality. The practice of faith is not just for an hour on Sunday but for the whole of life.
ANAM CHARA – ‘THE FRIEND OF THE SOUL’
A soul friend is someone who walks the spiritual journey with you as a source of wisdom, advice and encouragement. This practice is being reclaimed in our day through spiritual direction.
CREATIVITY AND FAITH
As an expression of faith, Celtic Christians created marvelous works of art, including Illuminated manuscripts and elaborate high crosses. They taught us that we can show our love for God through our acts of creativity.
PILGRIMAGE
The Celtic Saints called places of pilgrimage ‘thin places’ because there seemed to be only a thin veil between earth and heaven.
Join us this Lent as we explore Celtic Spirituality and Wisdom. Worship at 7 p.m. with a meal beginning at 5:15 p.m.
