A message from Pastor Lynnae

The season of Advent is four weeks before Christmas. Advent comes from the Latin word “Adventus” and means coming or arrival. It is in this season that we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus as the Christ child.

This year, we make the 300th year since writing of the hymn, “Joy to the World” by Isaac Watts. The hymn was actually written not as a Christmas or Advent hymn but as an interpretation of Psalm 98.

Watts was trying to con temporize the music used in worship and he wrote hundreds of hymns based on Psalms. I always love the line “The Lord is come.” You might think that instead of “is” it should properly be “has” come. That is what makes this a perfect song for Advent. The coming of the Lord is every day, not just on Christmas Day. Jesus comes to us over and over and it is in this time that we can truly prepare our hearts and make room for Jesus in our lives.

“Joy to the World, the Lord is come!”

A blessed Advent and Christmas.
